Film Analysis 'Spheres of action' Mr Thomas

Shrek
Lord Farquaad-In Shrek the antagonist is Lord Farquaad who also is the dispatcher as he sends Shrek on a quest to save the princess. Lord Farquaad is the antagonist as he wants the princess for himself even though he realises that Shrek falls in love with her, However, he still goes and does what he likes and puts Shrek down. Furthermore, he also bullies the gingerbread-man as he asks him questions, so that clearly shows that he is a villain.

Shrek- In Shrek, the protagonist is Shrek as he is the one that gets sent on a quest to save the princess. Shrek is an ogar who falls in love with the princess, however, because he is an ogar he thinks the princess dislikes him, little does he know she falls in love with him as well. Shrek saves the day by not letting Lord Farquaad get married to the princess. As Lord Farquaad dies Shrek and his loved princess get married together.

Princess Fiona - The princess in Shrek is the character that gets locked in a tower and to be saved she needs a knight to come to the rescue and save her from the tallest tower in the castle.However, the princess is also cursed as she takes up the form of an ogar every dawn when Shrek realises that she is the same creature as he is, he falls in love with her even more. However, at first, Fiona did not find Shrek attractive and handsome but that she also falls in love with him.

Donkey- In Shrek, the Donkey is portrayed as Shrek's helper/sidekick, when Shrek got thrown all the fairy tale creatures in his house Donkey was one of them. When Shrek said who he should speak with they all answered Lord Farquaad. So Shrek went on a journey to meet that Lord Farquaad, however, he had some sort of a companion who was Donkey- Donkey stayed with Shrek for the rest of the movie and he did not let him down, he even helped Shrek kill Lord Farquaad by using his beloved wife the Dragon.

  1. A basic understanding of some of the Spheres of Action, but which character would play the Donor/Mentor, who would be the Dispatcher be and is there a false hero? Please re-think your response, remember characters can play more than one role.
