Postmodern and Goodwin theory.

In the music video there are refrences to postmodern effects. For example in the video there is links to horror genre. This is shown when the girl gets dragged in the darkness, this is a typical horror movie scene as in horror movie we always see the victims getting dragged in darkness. Therefore, this texts use the postmodern trait from horror movies in order to create effects to the audience to get into the video more. This is called intertextual refrence as it uses other texts to make the video better.


In the music video there is another postmodern reference, which is narrative. In the music video what ever the lyrics are saying we can see it on the screen, this has a narrative as it shows a story behind video. For example when it says 'lady, running down to the reptile' we can see a lady running which shows that there is a story as she is getting to a destination. Therefore, this adds to the postmodern trends.


Moreover,there is more reference to postmodernism for example there is loads of reference to horror genre. For example in the start of the video there is a close up shot of a woman siting down on a dentist chair. The use of the props such as the contrction tool which looks like a torture tool used in horror movies. Furthermore, the high-key lighting used from the top makes her look like she is the victim of a horror film. Therefore, this refrences to postmodern trends. Moreover, Goodwin's theory can also be linked to this because there is visual that link to lyrics. In this image the lyrics are 'scared of the dentist' and then we see a girl siting down on a dentist chair, this make the lyrics and visuals link together. Therefore, there is reference to both Goodwin's theory and postmodernism.
  
Additionally,there is more reference to postmodernism in the video, for example the video uses intertextuality from other texts, they have used cowboy to link the lyrics with the visuals. This also references to Goodwin's theory as he suggested that there is a link between the visuals and the lyrics. Therefore, this uses both the theory and postmodernism ti make the video more catchy for the audience, they also do this in order to allow the viewers to intereprt their own message from the video as the meaning can differ depending on the viewer.

A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals. In this part of the music video we can see a long shot of an elderly woman seating on the piano. Furthermore, we can see a small box on top of the piano. This links to Goodwin's theory as in the video we can hear the woman saying 'should we see what Dizzee Rascal is doing today boys and girls' and then straight afterwards she also says 'He is such a Racal' and then we see Dizzee Rascal come out the box. In this magazine Ferguson's theory is applied as it suggests that woman in the magazine are meant to be portrayed as beautiful. The magazine portrayed woman being aspirational as they give the tools, in this case, is the bottled beauty, this tool is given to the woman in the magazine to make them look beautiful, and the woman reading this will construct an image of how they should be looking. Furthermore, the article features a woman who is using the product, she looks beautiful and is showing another woman reader how they should be looking. Moreover, Ferguson's theory is applied to that in many different ways, such as in the image we can see the woman touching her face, this can symbolise that the woman on the cover is suggesting that woman are meant to be more beautiful. As she touches her face with makeup she is suggesting that point. Woman's monthly magazines are more aspirational than weekly magazines? Monthly magazines are seen as more aspirational as their content and images are more aspiring to people as they look up to that person. Furthermore, monthly magazines due to their budget they can afford better qualitty paper, they have more luxurious look and feel which can mean they can engage their audiences as their magazines include high fashion models and better quality quotes, which means the audiance will inspire to look up to them and be like that model. Moreover, monthly magazines open a realm of possabilities for the audiance as they include better information and more description on different information, which allows posabilities for the audinace as they emerge themselves in knowledge of that 'glossies' magazine.
