Mr Thomas Analysis Of 3 Adverts
Advert Number 1
In the first part of the advert, we can see a women sat down and she is nude, which can illustrate that the advert is portraying woman bodies as objects of beauty. The use of the nude women can also emphasise that woman should not feel ashamed of who they are, they should have faith in themselves and not let men decide how they should looks, as that was the case in the older days men were patriarchal and decided a lot of things for the woman.Furthermore, the woman has makeup on, this can connote that the advert is trying to demonstrate the beauty of woman, The use of her body language and facial expression can suggest that the woman is elegant, peaceful and soft, this is stereotypical as men expect woman to be that way, they did not want them to be rough and ungentle, so, therefore, the advert is trying to portray woman in that way for the likeness of men, to make men see the woman they want. Additionally, the content under the nude woman can emphasis lot of meaning, In the content there is a quote saying 'you need a soap the will show you kindness' this can illustrate that woman are not receiving kindness from man and are treated poorly and they could not do anything because woman we're dependent on men for protection and woman were inferior to man. Furthermore, the content can be stereotypical as a quote suggests 'odour.. grantees you freshness' this can suggest that woman were expected to smell nice for men and please man with their smell, they were not allowed to smell bad and make men feel unpleasant around them. Additionally the advert next to the nude on can demonstrate a strong meaning for woman. We see shots cutting to a men approaching a women, which looks beautiful and is being represented as beautiful to attract man. When the man is next to her his facial expression can suggest he is happy, joyful. however, if the woman did not wear makeup the man probably is not going approach her, this is stereotypical as woman supposed to show their beauty to men and get dressed for man and not for themselves but because the man wanted to see them nice, so the woman had to make the male generation happy.
Advert Number 2
The second advert constructs a lot of stereotype about how woman are supposed to be portrayed in order to satisfy the needs of man.In the advert we see a woman using makeup, which can demonstrate that woman we're supposed to look beautiful for a man otherwise men will not like them, He facial expression looking directly in the mirror and smiling can suggest the woman is loving herself and who she is.Furthermore, we see other pictures of the woman at the bottom of the article, we can different shots of the woman using the brush in different places, two of the pictures of the woman is looking straight at us (Direct address). This can emphasise the woman is trying to pull the woman into reading the article. Moreover, by looking at us the audience she is suggesting that woman should look beautiful as her, she wants the female audience to inspire to be like her in order to get males attention. This can portray stereotype as woman are meant to attract males in order to seek protection and acceptance, so by looking well they attract the males and this what this advert is portraying is to look good for the satisfaction of men. So, therefore, that was their main goal.
Advert Number 3
In the last advert, we can see a mother holding a child, this can be stereotyped as woman's place is at home taking care of the child, and being a home wife, she is not considered to be doing any major activities or doing work, that was for the man,Furthermore that advert can emphasise that woman are reliant on men, that woman needs men protection, The woman's facial expression can suggest that she loves her life and family, she is directly looking at the child, the child can portray meaning of life and hope. Which this advert is trying to construct that children give us hope. Moreover, the content under the picture has a quote ' take care of your complexion, gently, safely' this can be stereotyped as woman are not always treated rightly from men, In worse cases, man use to beat their woman if woman did not agree to what men were wanting. So therefore, that advert is trying to contruct a messeage to men, which is to treat their woman rightly and with compassion, after all, she is taking care of your child. Lastly, the picture can portray that woman are inferior to men as you don't see a men on a cover holding a child because he is out doing all the hard work to support the family, while woman at home doing the easy work, therefore, this cover is suggesting woman are lower than man and that they look up to men.
