Audiences Theory and Handouts Notes

Audiences are the people that consume the media. Without Audiences there won't be no media.  Media organizations produce media texts to make profit= No audience= No profit. A Mainstream audience means the text appeals to a wide range of people. A Niche audience means the text appeal to a smaller group of people. Crossover audience means that media text has been set to target audience but can still be applying people outside the demographics. Demographics means dividing up the audience into different groups. Such as gender, age, ethnicity, region, nationality socio-economic group. Psychographics segmentation divides the market into groups based on social class, attitudes, values, interest and personality characteristics. Mainstream- SEEK SECURITY Aspires- SEEK STATUES  Succeeders-SEEK CONTROL Resigned- SEEK SURVIVAL Explores- SEEK DISCOVERY  Strugglers-SEEK ESCAPE  Reformers-SEEK ENLIGHTENMENT Fragment audience is the div...

Music Video, Tv Advert, Beast of no nation

Band-Aid- Do they know is Christmas In this advert, we see images kid and families that cannot cope with the situation they are in, in more simple words we can see poverty video. Furthermore, the lyrics of the advert suggest 'Do they even know is Christmas time at all' this can illustrate that the families that in poor conditions do not even realise that is Christmas because they are that hungry and need support, they need direct support from people that are wealthier and can manage to spare some food and clothing for their community. Moreover, Bunch of people gathered to help the hungry families in Africa at Christmas time. Alvardo theory can be presented here as the people pitied the people in Africa and went out to help them to have clothes and food in order to have good Christmas. Additionally, the adverts lyrics also suggest 'feed the world' which can emphasise that Band-aid wants every person in the world to be happily fed and with home, they want to make the wor...

Woman's monthly magazines are more aspirational than weekly magazines? Monthly magazines are seen as more aspirational as their content and images are more aspiring to people as they look up to that person. Furthermore, monthly magazines due to their budget they can afford better qualitty paper, they have more luxurious look and feel which can mean they can engage their audiences as their magazines include high fashion models and better quality quotes, which means the audiance will inspire to look up to them and be like that model. Moreover, monthly magazines open a realm of possabilities for the audiance as they include better information and more description on different information, which allows posabilities for the audinace as they emerge themselves in knowledge of that 'glossies' magazine. The rise of consumerism during the 1950s and 1960s As wartime austererity gave way to a new era of economic prosperity, woman's magazines were seen to enter new phase. Th...

Comparing Tide Advert and Another Advert

Image
In the 1940 the advert is used for propagnada purposes in order to requirt woman to work in the factories for the man, in the advert there is a quote 'The soldiers need out help! round up the american woman. this illustrated that the woman were suppose go in the factories, they needed them because they needed woman to win war because without them they won't be able to win it because they would not have essentials to support the soldiers. Furthermore, the quote 'Turns out you gals are useful after all' this can emphasise that the woman were seen as not a useful individual and were treated badly and not respected. however, that picture represents that woman were needed in the war and were seen in a postion to do real work, they saw woman as not useful when they were just staying home, they saw what they did at home was nothing, going into factories was seen the real work which apparently was appropriate for them to say that as they had the right,it is trivialising what th...

Using this still, write a more specific description of George In this still we can George walking as if he is on a mission. We can see the dark background behind him, which can emphasise that he is leaving his dark past behind and is going into a brighter future. We can see George is holding a package, this can illustrate he might be going to a important place and that might some sort of a gift. Furthermore, we see that Georges costume is a suit; this can suggest that George want look presentable for someone, the suit is also bright colour, which can contrast from the dark background, it can cannot that George is becoming pure and more representative towards society as he might of been a bad person in his past. What is the significance of George walking across the bridge at the start of the film? What does it suggest about the character? The significance of George walking on a bridge at the beginning can suggest that he is walking into his new life, This can suggest that G...

Documentary- Representation about woman

How are woman portrayed in the media? Are there difference between the difference media platforms? Make reference to the following media platforms TV(new and reality TV) and film. The way the media is portraying woman is always the same, woman in the media are being portrayed as sexual objects for a main  purpose to attract the attention of males. Furthermore, woman are not only being portrayed as sexual objects, they are also portrayed as despitful or hateful towards other females. The media is suggesting that there is always competition between females, competition of who to be the primal female. The media also shares a view that woman are useless for a huge role such as president, because they are seem as weak and not as powerful or important as man are. The way woman are being portryared in the platforms is all similar. The way woman are bing portrayed in TV is a negative. The way the media portrays the females in movies, if the woman is playing a normal casual role they are ...

This Girl Can and I Feel Pretty Feedback

Extract WWW EBI What terminology or theories could have been Rewritten version (chose one of the exemplars) Exemplar 1 In the ‘I Feel Pretty’ advert the protagonist Maria Sharapova is solely empowered via a series of close ups and mid shots where shallow focus and tracks are used in order to keep the audiences’ attention on her. As well as all of the other actors’ are watching her as they all sing the song. Eyeline matches are used to show that the actors are watching the protagonist throughout. This empowers the protagonist, as she is a young woman receiving everyone’s attention even that of the advert’s John McEnroe whose appearance is significant due to his famous tennis profile as an angry and foul-tongued sportsman.      She/he described the it very clearly and used lots of media terminology. She/he illustrated their knowledge of feminism and how women are...

This Girl Can

Discuss how the use of voice over help to create meaning     In this picture, the voice is contrasted with what we are seeing, as the voice-over mentions 'cute' we don't see a girl that is trying to look cute, we see a woman that is ready for action, ready to go out and show people that woman should not only be represented as cute and beautiful. They should be taken into consideration that they are powerful as much as men are.Furthermore, the voice can help to create a meaning as it is suggesting even though some woman would love the sport they still look cute and beautiful in sports outfit and that they should not care what man say about them. In what ways can you argue that this shot challenges van zoonen's notion of objectification because of the meaning created by the use of sound, mise-en-scene and camerawork. In this shot, we can see that van zoonen's notion of objectification is portrayed, usually, bottoms are portrayed as a sexual object i...

Woman In Sport Research and Feminism

Task 1 The first wave (1830’s – early 1900’s):   Women’s fight for equal contract and property rights Often taken for granted, women in the late 19th to early 20th centuries, realized that they must first gain political power (including the right to vote) to bring about change was how to fuel the fire. Their political agenda expanded to issues concerning sexual, reproductive and economic matters. The seed was planted that women have the potential to contribute just as much if not more than men. The second wave (1960’s-1980’s):   Broadening the debate Coming off the heels of World War II, the second wave of feminism focused on the workplace, sexuality, family and reproductive rights. During a time when the United States was already trying to restructure itself, it was perceived that women had met their equality goals with the exception of the failure of the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (which has still yet to be passed). Misconceptions… This ti...
