Eminem- Without Music Video Analysis

The music video starts with a close-up of a guy holding his fingers up and counting down from 5. This can represent that the music video we are about to watch is something different not ordinary to many viewers. This contrasts with other music videos, we know this because in another music video it starts off simple with like a nice background, such as sunny places or brighter lighting. Whereas, this video is darker and shadier and is not normal. The fact that the guy puts his fingers up adds to that shadier idea, it suggests that the music video we are about to witness is something new to the eye of the B-C category audiences. After that section, it pans toward the screen, which is filled with blue colour and the title says 'The Eminem Show' the blue background can make it friendly as blue connotes happiness, this contrasts from the start which was darker and make audiences realise that the video, after all, won't be dark and woeful.  The Title can represent many things. It can suggest that we are about to experience Eminem's life. However, by adding 'Show' makes it more comedic for the viewers as shows are usually full of unexpected things, this will make the audiences unaware of what to expect, this adds enigmas for the audiences making them think what are they going to witness and see. Furthermore, then we see Eminem himself wake up from a sleep, he wakes up suddenly and with 'whats going on' facial expressions. This can suggest that he was asleep for a long time and he is finally returning to the real world ready for action again. Then we see a girl pop up from one of the sides and on top of her head it shows her name, this adds the comedic effect, suggesting everything happening is not real, it's more of a comedy for the audience. Moreover, this links to Andrew Goodwin's theory of lyrics linking with the visuals. this is shown when Eminem says 'two trailer park girls go around the outside' this can suggest that Eminem does not really know what has happened he is clueless, and is confused why there are girls around him. Which makes the audience think what going on and adds more enigmas. and this links to his theory as it we see two girls pop up and Eminem saying two trailer park girl go around the outside. Moreover, when they both come up Eminem's facial expression suggests confusion and then one of the girls punches the other and a sign saying 'kupaww' comes up with a comic font. From that point onwards makes the audience aware what going on. They realise that this music video is not serious and more comedic, which engages the audience to carry on watching it more as they want to see what happens. Lastly, the comic effect added to the video gives the video twist to it making it more different than other videos, it adds humour to the audience. By adding this humour it engages the viewers to stay and watch it and laugh and be jolly about the video.

A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals. In this part of the music video we can see a long shot of an elderly woman seating on the piano. Furthermore, we can see a small box on top of the piano. In this magazine Ferguson's theory is applied as it suggests that woman in the magazine are meant to be portrayed as beautiful. The magazine portrayed woman being aspirational as they give the tools, in this case, is the bottled beauty, this tool is given to the woman in the magazine to make them look beautiful, and the woman reading this will construct an image of how they should be looking. Furthermore, the article features a woman who is using the product, she looks beautiful and is showing another woman reader how they should be looking. Moreover, Ferguson's theory is applied to that in many different ways, such as in the image we can see the woman touching her face, this can symbolise that the woman on the cover is suggesting that woman are meant to be more beautiful. Monthly magazines are seen as more aspirational as their content and images are more aspiring to people as they look up to that person. Furthermore, monthly magazines due to their budget they can afford better qualitty paper, they have more luxurious look and feel which can mean they can engage their audiences as their magazines include high fashion models and better quality quotes, which means the audiance will inspire to look up to them and be like that model.
