Postmodern Music Video Analysis

We know this a postmodern music video for several reasons. One reason this is a postmodern text is because it  includes parody. One example of parody in this music video is the props that are used in the video. In music videos we usually see luxury cars and luxury houses, these type of props and locations cannot richness and wealth.However, in the music video we do see luxury houses but instead of real cars we notice toy cars, this gives the comic effect to the audiences. This also makes them aware that music videos do not always have to be luxuries in order to satisfy their needs. By adding the toy cars allows the audiences to enjoy the video and be jolly. Whereas, always having luxury items in a music video might make the audiences woeful that they are not living the same life as them. This also adds playfulness to the music video which enhances the postmodern features. Another postmodern feature, which adds a comic effect is when we see the children in the toy police cars holding guns. This adds the parody for the audiences, including parody in this music video drives the music video forward and helps it get views as audiences will find it funny. However, this music video does not include intertextuality which means the video does not include other texts, which makes it less postmodern. Overall this music video is postmodern         

Eminem- Without me 
In this music video there is postmodern references such as intertextuality, We know there is intertextuality as they use reference from other texts. They use superhero clothing witch adds the comic effect to the music video making it postmodern for the audiences. This adds playfulness to the video making audiences more happy and excited to watch it. Furthermore, another intertextuality reference is using different costume such as the Elvis Presley costume, this adds the parody behind the video and adds playfulness. There is also hybridisation  as we dont  usually see superhero clothing in music videos, this means that this video is using features from different texts to make something new for the viewers. Making something new creates excitement for the audiences as it makes them aware that there is no point of always adding luxury stuff because it will make the video boring. Therefore, adding the comic effect makes it brand new and excites the audiences.

A relationship between the lyrics and the visuals. In this part of the music video we can see a long shot of an elderly woman seating on the piano. Furthermore, we can see a small box on top of the piano. This links to Goodwin's theory as in the video we can hear the woman saying 'should we see what Dizzee Rascal is doing today boys and girls' and then straight afterwards she also says 'He is such a Racal' and then we see Dizzee Rascal come out the box. This is linked with Goodwin's theory as it shows us that the  lyrics and she is pronoucing are linked with the visuals we are seeing. In this magazine Ferguson's theory is applied as it suggests that woman in the magazine are meant to be portrayed as beautiful. The magazine portrayed woman being aspirational as they give the tools, in this case, is the bottled beauty, this tool is given to the woman in the magazine to make them look beautiful, and the woman reading this will construct an image of how they should be looking. Furthermore, the article features a woman who is using the product, she looks beautiful and is showing another woman reader how they should be looking. Moreover, Ferguson's theory is applied to that in many different ways, such as in the image we can see the woman touching her face, this can symbolise that the woman on the cover is suggesting that woman are meant to be more beautiful. As she touches her face with makeup she is suggesting that point. Woman's monthly magazines are more aspirational than weekly magazines? Monthly magazines are seen as more aspirational as their content and images are more aspiring to people as they look up to that person. Furthermore, monthly magazines due to their budget they can afford better qualitty paper, they have more luxurious look and feel which can mean they can engage their audiences as their magazines include high fashion models and better quality quotes, which means the audiance will inspire to look up to them and be like that model. Moreover, monthly magazines open a realm of possabilities for the audiance as they include better information and more description on different information, which allows posabilities for the audinace as they emerge themselves in knowledge of that 'glossies' magazine.
